We’re looking forward to seeing you at our next Lino Printing Workshop!
The Format
Our Workshops are friendly and informal. They're designed to help you wind down from the week and enjoy creating art in the company of others. Please don't worry if you're a total beginner, we'll show you everything you need to know. And if you have some experience already, our team will be on hand to give you ideas and pointers for ways to improve your work or suggest things you may not have thought of.
We aim to create a relaxed atmosphere where you have a chance to learn something new and have lots of fun in the process!
The Venue
The workshop will take place at Studio@39 which is in the garden of 39 Chapel View, South Croydon CR2 7LE. You can find directions here (please click/tap on the relevant map). You can park for free in the road, and in most of the surrounding streets (but please check local signage).
It's about a 15 minute walk from the nearest bus and tram stops, but there are several different options depending on where you're coming from so please check a travel website or app to find your best route.
No.39 is set back from the road, so you'll need to walk up the steep driveway between Nos.37 and 41 to see the house. The studio is behind the house - please enter through the courtyard.
The Session
We recommend arriving 5 minutes early, to give yourself time to get settled in before we start. However, please don't arrive too early or we'll still be setting up! Tea and coffee will be available during the session, and we'll be serving a selection of snacks, but if you have any allergies you may prefer to bring your own.
For those of you who are new to lino printing, we will show you how to draw your design onto a piece of lino to make a background print. Then you'll use the cutting tools to make grooves in the surface, and evenly apply printing ink using a roller. You will make a series of prints using the 'reductive' technique. If you've already done quite a bit of lino printing, you're welcome to get started right away. By the end of the session you will have produced a variety of original pieces. These would make lovely greetings cards, or you could take them home and frame them - they'd make a wonderful and unique gift!
What to Bring and What to Wear
All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any objects or photos you'd like to use to inspire your work. Be mindful of copyright. By avoiding copying another artist’s work you can be sure you are not infringing anyone’s rights. We will have plenty of ideas on a set theme and we will also have printed photo inspiration available to give you lots of ideas to create something unique.
Printmaking can be a bit messy, so please don't wear anything special. You could bring an old shirt or apron to cover your clothes if you like, but the inks are water-based so should wash out of most fabrics.
Do let us know if you have any questions, otherwise we look forward to seeing you soon!
Please note - we usually take a few photos for our social media pages during the session. Please let us know in advance if you don't want to be in them.
